The Indian Economic Service (IES) and the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) are administrative, civil service cells under the Government of India. The Indian Economic Service was introduced in 1991 to formulate and implement economic policies and programmes in India. The role of ISS lies in the compilation and evaluation of various statistics and schemes undertaken by different departments of the Indian government. The UPSC conducts a joint entrance examination every year for entry into the two service cells.
