KPSC KAS Gazetted Probationers Examination Analysis

Prelims Paper-I is a general paper including questions from general knowledge, current affairs and working knowledge of the country. Questions can also ask about globally important milestones.

The General Studies (Prelims Paper-II) paper will mainly focus on Karnataka. Questions will be asked about the culture, history, geography, political history and economic conditions of Karnataka.

The Kannada and English papers in the mains examination are of qualifying nature. Marks obtained in these papers will not be considered for merit but passing in these subjects is necessary for selection.

Preparation tips for prelims

  • The importance of Current Affairs Knowledge cannot be stressed enough for any civil service examination. Stay on top of pivotal events happening across the globe. Reading standard newspapers in Kannada and English every day is a must. Make a habit of noting down important events as you read the newspaper.
  • Prelims examination is only a qualifying test and is not a part of the final merit list. So, aim to clear the preliminary examination with a safe margin. If you get a score well over the cut-off marks, it guarantees your qualification for the mains examination. Otherwise, there tends to a gap in your mains preparation.
  • NCERT and State Textbooks mostly contain all the relevant concepts for KPSC Preliminary examination.
  • Attempt previous years papers and mock tests available on the internet.

Preparation tips for Mains

  • Current Affairs is not exclusively mentioned in the syllabus, so students tend to overlook this. Do not make that mistake. Go through the notes you prepared during prelims preparation. The paper might not ask questions directly from these events. Still, if you include relevant details in explanatory answers, it adds value to your response and set you apart from the rest of the candidates.
  • The preferred medium of examination will not have any influence on the marks you score. Hence choose the language you are comfortable with and prepare to answer in the same medium.
  • Attempt mock tests available on the internet. This will help you with time management and also lets you brainstorm the static syllabus.

Preparation tips for the interview

  • The questions asked in the interview will not be subject-specific; instead, it is to judge your suitability to the district and post. The panel will want to know your personality, mental ability, sense of judgement, leadership skills and commitment towards the job.
  • Be Confident but Humble.
  • Answer truthfully. Do not oversell yourself.
  • Believe in yourself and your motivation to join the Administrative Service.
